What to Expect During Your First Consultation

During your first visit, Dr Francesco Lo Monaco will thoroughly discuss your symptoms, lifestyle, medical & family history, and any previous cardiac investigations. You will be examined for your:

Current symptoms

Medical history

Family history of heart disease

Lifestyle factors

Previous cardiac investigations and treatments

Depending on your specific heart health needs, your consultation may include:

Blood pressure check or recommending an Ambulatory BP Monitor for continuous monitoring

ECG or other cardiac tests (where appropriate)

Discussion of findings and possible diagnosis

Discussion of personalised treatment options

Where clinically appropriate, further investigations can often be arranged promptly to help minimise delays in diagnosis and treatment.

Possible Duration of Your First Cardiology Visit

Initial consultations typically last around 30-45 minutes, giving you enough time to discuss your symptoms, share concerns, and receive personalised advice about your heart health. However, if additional diagnostic tests are carried out on the same day, your visit may take longer.

Preparing for Your Cardiac Tests

If additional heart diagnostics are required, our team will explain everything about preparing for your test. Most cardiac tests require little or no preparation, and in many cases, you can eat, drink, and take your usual medication as normal. However, some tests may have specific instructions, such as fasting or temporarily adjusting certain medications. If any preparation is needed, we’ll let you know in advance.

Video Consultations Available

If you’re unable to attend the clinic or prefer an online consultation? Dr Francesco Lo Monaco offers secure video consultations for both new and follow-up patients. Discuss your symptoms, review test results, and receive expert advice from the comfort of your home. All you need is a mobile phone or computer with a stable internet connection.

Do You Need a GP Referral?

Most patients can book directly without a GP referral. However, if you intend to claim through private medical insurance, your insurer may require a GP referral before authorising treatment. We recommend checking with your insurance provider before your appointment.

Private Medical Insurance

Dr Lo Monaco accepts most major private medical insurance providers. If you’re using private health insurance, please:

  • Contact your insurer before your appointment.

  • Obtain any required pre-authorisation number.

  • Bring your membership details with you on the day of your consultation.
